Sunday Dinner: Grilled Brussels Sprouts and Cherry Tomatoes
Posted on 2009.09.20 | No CommentsTake young brussels sprouts, ends trimmed off and sliced in half. Toss in olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Add a squeeze of lime. Do the same with cherry tomatoes, in a separate bowl. Throw the brussels sprouts on the grill in a grill basket or similar (ours was on medium). Open up the top in a few minutes to check and stir. Watch for charring if it bothers you – I think it adds a little flavor. When the sprouts look toasty and a taste seems close to cooked (losing its bitterness and raw cabbage flavor), add... -
Currently Obsessing: Taco de Lengua – Tacubaya
Posted on 2009.09.07 | No CommentsOMG, every weekend for weeks (I say weekend because I travel during the week, but sometimes even more than 1x a week) when I’ve been in town, I’ve gone to Tacubaya on 4th St. in Berkeley… ordering up a couple of tacos de lengua. Yes, beef tongue tacos. Tongue is not necessarily one of my favorite beef cuts – texture can be a little weird – but here it works in the taco’s favor… super moist and tasty chunks, with a green tomatillo salsa, and covered in onions and cilantro. Posted on 2009.09.05 | No CommentsOn our anniversary this year we had dinner @ Pizzaiolo in Oakland – our first visit after I heard lots about them. We actually really like that neighborhood, which also has the great yarn store Article Pract, Dona Tomas, etc. I’ve been teasing Gus that we should have bought a house over in Oakland since so many of our favorites seem to be over there (e.g., Camino, Dona, adesso, Wood Tavern). And Pizzaiolo did not disappoint – serving up the kind of daily menu and fresh ingredients we love. We will go again soon. Just look at the crust on...
